Employees in certain industries are more likely to be injured on the job than workers in other industries. For instance, a person working in an amusement park or arcade is more likely to suffer an injury that causes job restriction or transfer than a person who works in poultry and egg production. Nationwide data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics was analyzed by Allsup, a firm that published its findings in a study detailing workplace injuries throughout the country and within many states. It listed the states that employees are most likely to be involved in incidents that cause job transfer or restriction and Louisiana was not among them.
This means that Louisiana is either at the average level of days per 100 workers lost to job transfer or restriction, which is 0.7 per 100 employees, or below it. But that does not mean that workplace injuries do not happen. With nearly 9 million workers receiving Social Security Disability Insurance – a portion of whom who were injured on the job – it is likely that there are many people in Louisiana who have been hurt while working.
With the study’s chosen unit of measurement in mind – days lost to job transfer or restriction per 100 workers in 2011 – consider these figures: beverage manufacturing had a national rate of 2.7 days per 100 workers, nursing care facilities had 2.6, animal slaughtering and processing had 3.1, hog and pig farming had 2.2 and motor vehicle manufacturing had 2.2.
