New Facility To Help Contract Workers Identify Safe Workplaces

An industrial training facility has opened in Gonzales, Louisiana, with the goal of helping workers throughout the state improve their safety awareness within the construction, utility and petrochemical industries. The facility is designed to prevent such employees from being injured while working through improved safety training and understanding. The initiative is sponsored through the Alliance Safety Council, which is a Baton Rouge nonprofit group.

The safety council has more than 1,000 corporate members that invest in an annual membership in order to receive discounted training for their contract workers – those who do not go through site-specific training because they do not perform consistent work at the main facility. All contract workers are currently required to take a basic safety class before they ever walk onto a petrochemical site. The new center will allow those workers to receive accurate training that is tailored to meet their workplace safety needs in a convenient location.

Alliance is a heavy-hitter in the industrial safety field, having garnered national recognition as a site that actually prepares Occupational Safety and Health Administrations trainers to teach safety classes. It is categorized as an OSHA Outreach Training Institute Education Center. The new location in Ascension Parish guarantees that more workers will learn how to avoid becoming a work accident victim because of poor on-site safety conditions.

Employers have a responsibility to provide safety training for workers, no matter whether their job is in an office or in an oil field. Without the proper safety education, employees can end up accepting unsafe working conditions without bringing them to anyone’s attention. This can lead to construction site accidents and other serious incidents. Safety training is a key component for preventing workplace injury accidents in Louisiana.
