Baton Rouge police arrested a suspected drunk driver, who allegedly ran through a busy intersection and caused an injurious car crash on a recent Monday evening. The traffic accident happened on Aug. 3, at approximately 10 p.m., and several individuals were injured.
The 23-year-old driver who allegedly caused the crash was charged with 3rd offense DWI, negligent vehicular injuring, driving with a suspended license, reckless operation and fugitive from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. The man was previously charged with DWI on July 16, 2012 and Aug. 17, 2011. His bond is currently set at $30,000, but as of last reports he was still being detained as a fugitive from justice.
According to authorities, the man failed to stop at a red light, which caused him to crash into at least one other vehicle. Injuries from the collision caused the accused driver and two others to be sent to the hospital. At this time, it is unknown how severe their injuries are.
Police say that the 23-year-old driver smelled like alcohol and they found open containers of alcohol on the floor of his sport utility vehicle. Furthermore, both a passenger in the vehicle with the man said that he had been drinking, and the driver himself admitted to drinking.
