Louisiana Drivers Will Soon See Auto Insurance Refunds

Posted in COVID-19 on April 10, 2020

Most drivers in our state will see a little extra cash in April and May thanks to a refund from major auto insurance companies. The savings will average around 15 percent.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States and families nationwide have sheltered in place, there has been a substantial decrease in unnecessary travel. Auto insurers are offering refunds in order to pass on to consumers some of the enormous savings they’ve experienced from dramatically lower auto accident claims. Allstate, for example, will refund $600 million to customers nationwide. Consumer protection groups helped make the refund a reality by placing pressure on regulatory agencies in states across the country.

Most drivers will see their refund as a credit toward their April and May auto insurance bills. For details on your auto insurer’s COVID-19 “shelter in place” refund program, visit their website. Note: not all auto insurance companies have announced refund programs, while nearly all are at least “exploring” the possibility.

The following insurers have premium refund programs in place for customers:

Allstate

GEICO

Liberty Mutual

Travelers

USAA
