Salute to Our Olympians

Posted in Our Blog on August 8, 2012

Gabby Douglas.pngThe London Olympics are about half-way completed, and they’ve already packed about as much action and entertainment as this Olympics fan can recall from summers past.

The United States currently leads the field with 37 total medals, trailed closely by China with 34. The US and China are tied with 18 gold medals each.

But more captivating than that is the dominance with which individual American Olympians have carried their fields. Gabby Douglas has stood out above all others as the most compelling story of this year’s games. The 16-year-old American gymnast became the first-ever African-American to win all-around gold in that sport. Her unique story of relocating from her home in Virginia to train for two years in Iowa with renowned gymnastics instructor Liang Chow, and her painstaking training and dedication to her craft finally paid off yesterday. Her performance under the most intense pressure imaginable was simply breathtaking. [Watch the full replay here.]

Where dedication pays off in the most pressure-filled situations is, for me, what makes the Olympics so great. Olympians dedicate years of their lives to nothing other than the pursuit of a singular goal; to watch them compete at the pinnacle of their careers and lives to reach this goal is fascinating.

The accomplishments of Douglas and other champions like Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are an inspiration to us all, a message of what can be accomplished when hard work and preparation meets opportunity. Phelps is a particularly great example of that, as his unique dedication to swimming has made him the most decorated Olympic athlete ever, with 20 medals (including 16 gold!) to his name. If his eight gold medals from the 2008 Beijing Olympics hadn’t already done so, these Olympics have solidified Phelps’ place alongside Carl Lewis, Wilma Rudolph, Jesse Owens, Jim Thorpe, Cassius Clay, and the 1992 Dream Team as the greatest American Olympic champions ever.

We here at Team Redmann Law strive every day to achieve excellence in caring for every one of our clients and their cases. We are inspired by Team USA and its accomplishments, and salute them for representing us so well.
