What Should You Do If You Are Injured On The Job?

Hard-Hat-Man-01.jpg

When you arrive at work, you realize that you have a job to complete. You may also realize that you could be injured at some point.

Even when you do your best to remain safe, you never know if an accident could cause an injury or illness. For this reason, it's important that you know which steps to take should you be injured.

First things first, don't wait to receive medical attention. For example, you may need to prompt a coworker to call for an ambulance. The sooner you receive treatment the greater chance there is that you can avoid a serious injury.

Also, don't delay in reporting the injury to your employer. You don't want to give them any reason to believe that your injury occurred outside of work, thus meaning that you aren't eligible to receive workers' compensation benefits.

Once you're able to do so, complete a workers' compensation claim form. Make sure you provide accurate and thorough information, as this is important to receiving benefits in a timely manner.

Once you file the claim, all you can do is wait for an approval. If for any reason your claim is denied, there is another step to take: filing an appeal.

If you are faced with a workers' compensation claim denial, don't give up and assume that you aren't entitled to benefits. Instead, take the time to learn more about the system in your state and how it works. You should be able to file an appeal with the hope of having the denial overturned in the near future.
