U.S. 51 vehicle crash kills 1 woman

A 39-year-old mother lost her life in a tragic car accident last Monday morning. In addition to killing the woman, the collision also left three people injured. Among the victims was a 1-year-old child.

The accident happened at approximately 10 a.m., as the deceased woman was driving a Nissan Altima in the northbound lanes of U.S. 51, not far from Palmetto Drive. A GMC Envoy, which was traveling in a southbound direction, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the woman's car. The Envoy was being driven by a 24-year-old man from Luling.

The woman was catastrophically injured in the crash. Although emergency medical personnel rushed her to the University Medical Center, doctors were unable to save her and she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. A 22-year-old man and a 1-year-old baby were riding in the back of the woman's Nissan. They suffered moderate injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Although the baby was riding in a child seat at the time of the crash, the seat had not been appropriately installed. The Envoy driver was also injured.

At this time, police do not suspect alcohol to have been a factor in this crash. However, they have sampled blood from the Envoy driver and are currently waiting for the results of a toxicology analysis. No charges have been filed in the case at this time.

When a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic and causes a fatal collision in Louisiana, police will try to determine why such an incident may have occurred. Family members of any deceased victims will also want to know why they have lost their loved one. Family members in such cases may also wish to seek personal injury damages relating to their loved one's loss, such as lost family income, end-of-life expenses, lost companionship and more.
