The latest DWI campaign started this month in Louisiana

Police officers in Louisiana are starting to crack down on DWI cases, and they've been running a new campaign this month to focus more attention on drunk drivers. It started on the 15th of August, and it involves 166 agencies all across the state.

The campaign is known as "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." It is something that is being done on a national level, and not just in Louisiana, but the state has just now joined in.

The campaign is two weeks long, and a spokesperson for the police said that they had a special focus on drunk driving on Labor Day. For a lot of people, he said, Labor Day marks the closing of summer. Vacations are over, children go back to school, and people settle back into their routines.

Because of this, they like to use Labor Day as a party weekend. Many people get time off from work, so they have a long weekend, and others will take time off specifically to go out with friends, to have bonfires and barbeques, to head out on the boat, and to do many other activities that can involve drinking.

This party mentality can cause a spike in DUI arrests and in accidents. In a lot of ways, it's similar to how these things also tend to spike around the 4th of July or Memorial Day, when people have the same mindset.

Even with this effort, police can't stop all drunk drivers around the holidays, so you have to know what legal options you have if you're involved in an accident and you suffer injuries because someone else was drunk behind the wheel.
